German car-maker Volkswagen has set the sights on creating the world’s first hovering car. The concept is debuting with a focus on China.
The hovering car concept consists of a wheel shaped pod that uses a magnetic field generated by the road, which allows it to float just above the ground with nimble handling, presumably due to the little joystick featured in the video below.
Upon closer inspection we can make out a few other features that VW may be developing for their consumer car market as it stands: automated driving for hands free driving, collision avoidance, a heads up display, amongst other features.
Although there is awareness shown to other geographic regions, The People’s Project is focusing primarily on China, The People’s Republic, and it’s population of a growing 1.3 billion people. They have said,
“The platform is debuting in China because that is Volkswagen’s largest and most important market. However, we also see potential for launching the project in other markets as well,”
It is unclear what this means for those of us still holding out for a PitBull Hover Board, but if anything this is a step in the right direction so long as it actually gets done before I’ll require a hover-cane. I’ll update as the story develops. Thanks for reading guys
